Not wanting to be outdone by the latest wave of earthquakes and tsunamis that have been sweeping the planet, Iceland has thrown it hat into the ring with a cheeky left-of-field eruption.
But my question isn't when will planes be able to fly again.
It's how on earth do you pronounce Eyjafiallaioekull ?

I have no idea. But considering the problems its causing I bet when you translate it, it will be sometime you wouldn't repeat in polite circles.
Ì think it's the sound you make when the mountain you've lived beside for 10 years suddenly decides to belch.
I'm thinking you are so right, Countess.
Is it a belch or a barf, Tinman ?
You have to live there to know how to pronounce it. Kind of like Chinese...

Eyjafiallaioekull is pronounced
ay-yah-FYAH'-plah-yer-kuh-duhl.
I think that would sound rude in every language going.
Hi Lindsey ! I think it's one of those things that you have to have lived there or be a native of the country to even begin to understand it!
Stephen HOW ON EARTH DO YOU KNOW THAT? And yes, I agree. Also I'm wondering how many times it's been named in news bulletins - or has it been referred to as ' the volcano in Iceland'?
Its the sound you make when you're reliving your boozy night out over the toilet bowl...
The newspapers here have helpfully added in the pronunciation, which we all ignore, saying instead "That volcano in Iceland." The Spouse Sparrow has a blogging friend who is Icelandic, she says if it blows they will mainly be calling out "Oh shit!" and not the name of the volcano, ha.
I suppose it could be argued that you'd also feel like an exploding volcano.
Hah Fat Sparrow, bet they will ! Especially if number two goes.
it's pronounced: iforgotmyyougurt ;~D
xoxoxox
(drop over, i've posted 2 hilarious vids about it!)
Sav, outstanding!
Now just off to eay-maya-yoghurt....I wonder when that will blow?

Depends on whether you're lactose intolerant.
I'll get my coat...
*Sound of kate laughing out loud*
