The upshot of all of this is that I am very confused come rubbish day.

Christchurch has just introduced a three-bin kerbside collection for domestic waste. The whole idea is to reduce the amount of domestic rubbish going to landfill by one third.

This means you now have to separate your rubbish into: rubbish, recycling and organics which is actually just a little tedious but, just as I got used to having to brush my teeth and put my seat belt on, I am sure it won't be too long before I will forget that it's a bit of a drag.

But the thing I can't quite get my head around is the new tag line the Council have introduced in order to launch this new system.

'Love your rubbish.'

Huh?

If I loved my rubbish, surely I wouldn't be throwing it out?

But does it work?

Do people actually recycle properly? Or is it just a big messy waste ( no pun intended) of time?

It;s a constant issue I have in our place. We have regular bin skips, a recycling skip and bottle banks - but the residents are so lazy that if the recycling receptacle is placed back into the bin sorted last, they won't walk to extra feet to use the normal bin so everything just gets fired in on the recycling. The result of which is that it's just a waste of time and money.

Hopefully they'll never come up with a scheme to get you all to use the toilet more often...

'Love your rubbish.'

Hmmm, I'd say the accident & emergency departments of the local hospitals will be seeing some unusual cases over the coming weeks.

Lottie, I'm not sure whether it will work or not. I hope so. (Even though I risk hypothermia each time I make a made dash to a different bin).

Tinman, hadn't thought of that! Arrrrghhh!

Meadowm, hah! Maybe 'Love your rubbish, but just not too much.'
