While I love Samoa...

...I think I will be giving it a wide berth over the next few months as they get their heads around driving on the other side of the road.

Call me cynical, and I really hope I am wrong, but one word springs to mind - clusterfuck.

And I am only saying that because I know that if the country I lived in decided to drive on the opposite side of the road - while I think I would be fine at the beginning -down the track I reckon my default setting would stick its hand up and deliver me an almighty bitch slap me when I didn't have my wits about me.

Good luck Samoa, I really really hope it goes better than I fear it will.

When I was living in England, I turned into a street "European style" once. I only just avoided a collision. I was on a bike...

Do they feel, perhaps, that their population has grown to an unwieldy level?

I know exactly what you're talking about. In Spain, looked left, stepped out, looked right* and realised I was standing in the path of s-l-o-w m-o-t-i-o-n b-u-s a-p-p-r-o-a-c-h-i-n-g.

(Apparently it was worse for those who were witnessing it).

*Being left-right challenged, not sure of the way it was that I actually looked, all I know was that it was in the wrong direction.

The reason everywhere originally drove on the left had something to do with horsemen carrying their sword on their left hand side and de-sheathing it with their right.

That still happens in parts of Dublin and Limerick.

Years & years ago there was a report in a paper about some country that was changing, Kenya I think it was. The report said
"Kenya is to change over to driving on the left. The change will be made gradually."

GrowUp, I hadn't thought of that! It's a good way to cull, though. Apparently they're doing okay, wonder if that'll be the same after the alchohol ban lifts in two days time.

Really, Holemaster? (Cause I am believing you here). So why some countries on the other side? Was it because of a ruling cack hander ?

Tinman, that's outstanding.

They are changing sides? Why? Why would they do that? WHy would they need to? WHYYYYYY?

They want to stop importing the thirsty cars from the US and start getting more economical hand me downs from NZ and Australia.

No idea why most of the world drives on the right. I can make the switch easy enough when I'm on the continent but some people just can't get their head around it.

There was talk of Ireland switching over years back to avail of cheaper vehicles from the continent, starting of course with trucks, then buses and so on.

My problem is that I am so left hand-right hand challenged, I second guess myself as to whether I am on the right side.

Driving down a deserted road in Spain (after being in the States) I was passenger in a car when the question was, 'Fuck! Which side of the road are we supposed to be on ?'
